Bucket lists are the things that a person wants to do before they die. But, some adults’ bucket lists can go beyond adrenaline rushes and passport stamps. They can include activities that challenge the body, and the mind, build new connections, or strengthen existing ones.

So, if you’re working on your own bucket list, here are some items for your list you may not have considered.

Train for something you never thought of doing

We sometimes think, “I’m not sure I can do that”.  But, let’s set a goal that challenges the body in a sustainable and rewarding way. For example, competing in a marathon, hiking, learning to swim, and learning to skate are all items that can be challenging, yet rewarding.

Navigation is also important survival skill. If you learn to hike, for example, you may find yourself in a location with no GPS or cell phone signal and need to know how to navigate to safety.

Taking a certified course in CPR or emergency response equips you to act quickly and calmly during emergencies.

Learning survival skills is about empowerment. It challenges you to step out of your comfort zone and make a positive difference in society, as people can rely on you during emergencies.



Volunteer for a special cause

Volunteering can be a meaningful activity that any adult can choose. You can make a real difference in your hometown or city. Here are some examples of volunteering you could try:

  • Supporting a local food bank
  • Donating your time to an animal shelter
  • Cleaning up an area or water body, like a local pond, lake, etc.
  • Participate in a tree planting project

Volunteering strengthens personal skills like communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities. It also can open doors to new friendships or professional opportunities.
