The story behind the Put A Hook N1 trout shirt

Fly fishing is an art form. When we set out to do a shirt design for the fly fishing community, we wanted it to not only be comfortable, but also representative of the fly fishing craft. 

A trout, but which one?

We knew that we wanted to feature a trout in this design. But, we weren’t sure which species to choose. There are so many species of trout with beautiful colors and patterns that it made the decision rather difficult. In the end, we decided to go with the brook trout, which has an absolutely stunning pattern. But other than featuring a trout, how could we really reinforce the fly fishing component?

Fly fishing specifics

In addition to featuring a trout, we wanted the artwork of the design to clearly communicate something specific about fly fishing. The roll cast is a popular fly fishing technique that we knew would resonate with the fly fishing community. So, we implied that with the line and leader in the design. The brook trout in the design is breaking the water. To communicate that effect, we made the design fade into the blue shirt. This created the illusion of the shirt being the water with the brook trout breaking after the fly.
